Online Poker in Ontario 2026: Six Legal Sites, Four Player Pools Compared

Online Poker in Ontario

Online poker in Ontario is legal on six sites registered with iGaming Ontario: GGPoker, PokerStars on FanDuel, 888poker, BetMGM Poker, partypoker and bwin. You must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario to play for real money.

The six sites deal to only four player pools, because BetMGM Poker, partypoker and bwin share one network, and every table is closed to anyone outside the province.

We read each room’s published rake table, game list, Sunday schedule and tool rules for this guide, and checked the legal position against the court files. The short version: the cheapest room depends on your stake, PokerStars now lives inside FanDuel, and a Supreme Court of Canada ruling that could open Ontario’s tables to the world is still pending. This page is part of our guide to casino games in Ontario.

The Six Legal Online Poker Sites in Ontario

iGaming Ontario’s register of regulated sites has a Poker filter. At the time of writing it returned six sites, the same six as in early September. Each one runs a real-money poker room in which you play against other players and the site takes a share of each pot, the rake, or an entry fee in tournaments.

Our reviews cover the same companies: GGPoker, FanDuel, 888, BetMGM, PartyCasino and bwin. At FanDuel and BetMGM the poker room uses the same account and wallet as the casino; GGPoker is the other way round, a poker room with a casino attached. That casino sits inside the client, with no demo mode, and includes GG99, a set of table, video poker and arcade games configured to 99% RTP.

Casino poker is not online poker

Many Ontario casinos list “poker” in their lobbies — video poker, Three Card Poker, Caribbean Stud. Those are casino games played against the house, not against other players, and the register does not count them: Golden Nugget, Golden Tiger, Caesars, BetNova and Pinnacle, among others, are listed for Casino or Sports Betting only. If you want those games, our casino games guide covers them. This page is about player-versus-player poker.

Four Player Pools, Not Six

The number that decides how busy your tables are is the number of pools, and Ontario has four.

  • GGPoker runs its own Ontario room on the global GGPoker software, with the same tools as GGPoker.com but only Ontario players.
  • PokerStars on FanDuel is one room. FanDuel’s help centre says Canadian and US accounts are completely separate, and the shared US network covers only New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
  • 888poker runs its own Ontario room, separate from 888’s international network, whatever its homepage says about players worldwide: Ontario’s rules keep every table in the province.
  • BetMGM Poker, partypoker and bwin are three doors into one network. None of them says so in one sentence, but the evidence is consistent: all three clients connect to the same partypoker game server and differ only in a brand code; their apps were updated to the same version, 8.7.3, within an hour of each other on 28 May 2026; and BetMGM’s Ontario terms forbid entering the same poker event through more than one of the brands.

The only cash-game traffic figures we found date back to February 2025, and they come from a third party: in that month, GameIntel data published by the news site pokerfuse put GGPoker at an average of 365 occupied cash seats, PokerStars at 214, the BetMGM network at 84 and 888poker at 34. No Ontario room publishes its own numbers, and PokerStars has changed platform since. Treat the order, not the figures, as the useful part.

What Happened to PokerStars in Ontario

PokerStars ran its own Ontario room from 2022. In 2026 it moved inside FanDuel, which belongs to the same group, Flutter.

DateWhat happened
3 March 2026PokerStars announces that FanDuel will be its exclusive home in North America, Ontario included
7 May 2026The PokerStars Ontario platform, run by TSG Interactive Canada, closes for poker, casino and sports
3 June 2026Planned launch on FanDuel, postponed the same morning
5 June 2026PokerStars exclusively on FanDuel goes live in Ontario, at poker.fanduel.ca
From PokerStars Ontario’s announcements on X, the PokerStars and FanDuel help pages and the iGaming Ontario register.

For players, three things changed. You need a FanDuel account; old PokerStars balances were not moved across, and had to be withdrawn from the old site. The software is new: the client and app are FanDuel builds, and the download links point to Playtech’s iPoker technology rather than the classic PokerStars client. And the register no longer lists PokerStars at all: the room appears as “FanDuel Poker”, run by FanDuel Canada ULC. The old address, on.pokerstars.ca, is still online and sends you to FanDuel. Our PokerStars page keeps the background.

The Sunday flagship tells the story of the first months. The Sunday Dynasty launched on 7 June with a $100,000 guarantee at $100. By late October it carried $20,000, and on 25 October it drew 194 players, with $3,975 for the winner.

Rake Compared: What Each Ontario Room Takes

Every cash-game pot that reaches the flop pays rake: a percentage of the pot, up to a cap. All four networks publish their Ontario tables, and they are close on the percentage — about 5% everywhere — but far apart on the cap, which is what decides the cost once pots get big.

No Limit Hold’em, cap with five or more players dealt in (three or more at 888poker); heads-up = two players dealt in. PokerStars on FanDuel takes $0.01 per $0.18 in the pot up to $2.50/$5. From each room’s published Ontario rake table, as at the article date.

Three findings stand out. At the micro stakes, GGPoker is the cheapest: its $1 cap at $0.05/$0.10 is a third of the BetMGM network’s. From $0.25/$0.50 to $2.50/$5 the order reverses, and the BetMGM network, with the same $3 cap at every one of those stakes, takes the least from a big pot — half of GGPoker’s cap at $1/$2. And PokerStars on FanDuel takes slightly more per pot than the others up to $2.50/$5, $0.01 for every $0.18 rather than every $0.20, and its own help page shows its Ontario caps are higher than those it charges in the US ($5 against $3.50 at $1/$2).

Two caveats. Most micro-stakes pots never reach the cap, so at $0.05/$0.10 the percentage matters more than the cap; GGPoker also takes one big blind from every pot of 30 big blinds or more for its Bad Beat Jackpot. GGPoker’s Omaha is cheaper than its Hold’em up to $2/$5: a full PLO pot at $0.50/$1 is capped at $2, against $5. And bwin’s own rake page publishes a different schedule; because its players sit at the same tables as BetMGM’s and partypoker’s, we use the network table that BetMGM and partypoker both publish.

Tournament fees

NetworkTournament fee
GGPokerA set share of the buy-in, shown in each event’s lobby; no rake on tournament pots
PokerStars on FanDuelIncluded in the buy-in and shown in the lobby’s Structure tab; no table published
BetMGM networkFrom 0% to 20% of the buy-in, according to the help centre; the poker guide says up to 25%
888poker9.09% up to $55, $9 on a $109 event (8.26%), $15 on $215 (6.98%), $25 on $525 (4.76%)
888poker’s fees read from its own tournament feed for this article; the others from their help pages.

The pattern at 888poker holds across the market: the fee falls as a share of the buy-in as the buy-in rises, so a micro-stakes tournament player pays proportionally the most.

Fast-Fold Tables and Lottery Sit & Gos

Beyond regular cash tables and tournaments, each network sells two fast formats: a fast-fold pool, where you move to a new table as soon as you fold, and a three-player hyper-turbo whose prize pool is set by a random multiplier.

NetworkFast-foldLottery sit & goBuy-insMultiplier rangeOther formats
GGPoker—Spin & Gold$0.25 to $200x2 up to x40,000 (3-max)All-In or Fold (8 big blinds, shove or fold)

888pokerSNAPBLAST10¢, $1, $5, $10, $202x to 10,000xPlay with Friends private tables
From each room’s Ontario game pages and help centre, at the time of writing. GGPoker’s Ontario lobby lists cash, tournaments, All-In or Fold and Spin & Gold.

The lottery formats are where the published odds are worth reading. GGPoker publishes the whole Spin & Gold wheel: the top multiplier lands once in two million games, and the two smallest, x2 and x3, are 92.5% of all games, where the winner takes everything. 888poker puts the chance of BLAST’s 10,000x top prize at one in a million, and publishes its fee per buy-in: 10% at 10¢, falling to 7.7% at $20. The BetMGM network charges 8% on $1 and $5 SPINS, 6% at $10 and 5% at $50.

Fast-fold changes the game more than it changes the price: you see more hands an hour, so you pay rake on more pots. PokerStars on FanDuel allows up to eight Zoom tables at once on desktop and two on mobile; 888poker caps regular cash play at six tables, and one on a phone.

The WSOP link is GGPoker’s own: its parent group, NSUS, bought the World Series of Poker in 2024, and the Ontario room hosts the province’s online bracelet events.

HUDs, Trackers and the Rules on Software

A HUD shows statistics about your opponents on the table. Ontario’s rooms disagree on whether you may use one, and the disagreement runs through the middle of one network.

RoomHUDs and trackersOther rules
GGPokerBuilt-in Smart HUD, free for every player, with opponent stats in cash games, All-In or Fold and tournamentsTerms ban bots and any interference with the software
PokerStars on FanDuelBuilt-in stack-in-big-blinds and hand-strength indicators; bans “prohibited software” without publishing a listHand histories exportable from the desktop client only
BetMGM PokerAllowed from a published list: Holdem Manager, PokerTracker, Hand2Note, NoteCaddy, Poker Copilot and table toolsSolvers, equity calculators, push/fold charts, bots and virtual machines banned

888pokerOwn HUD free on all devices (VPIP, PFR, 3-bet); trackers that only organise your own tables’ dataAI tools, real-time advice, data from tables you are not at and seating scripts banned
From each operator’s terms, help centre and tool policies, as at the article date.

The odd one out is the BetMGM network. A BetMGM Poker player may run PokerTracker or Holdem Manager at a table where partypoker and bwin players, under their own brand’s rules, may not. If you play that network and rely on a tracker, the brand you sign up with matters.

Above the operators’ rules sit the regulator’s. The AGCO’s Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming require every operator to detect and prevent bots and software that gives an unfair advantage (Standard 4.22), to stop collusion, seat-sharing and playing against yourself (4.23), and to give players a simple way to report suspected cheating (4.17 to 4.19).

Yes, on registered sites. All six poker sites on this page are on the iGaming Ontario register. Since April 2022 private operators have offered online poker in Ontario under agreements with iGaming Ontario, the provincial agency that conducts and manages the market, and registration with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. In peer-to-peer games the operator does not play against you: it runs the table as iGaming Ontario’s agent and takes the rake, whose maximum iGaming Ontario sets in its contracts with operators, according to the Court of Appeal.

Two conditions apply to every player. You must be 19 or older (Standard 3.01), and you must be physically in Ontario when you play: the standards require continuous geolocation and VPN detection (Standard 3.02). Living in Ontario is not enough if you are on holiday in Quebec. Our guide to legal online gambling in Ontario covers the wider rules.

Will Ontario Share Player Pools With the World?

Not yet, and not soon. The province’s own order in council of February 2024 says Ontario players are not entitled to take part in games involving players outside Ontario. The same order asked the courts whether that could change.

DateStep

7 October 2026Supreme Court hearing; decision reserved, no date announced
From the Court of Appeal decision, the Supreme Court of Canada case file 42141, the order in council and the Alberta government, as at the article date.

The interveners show who is waiting on the answer: the Canadian Gaming Association, Flutter (PokerStars on FanDuel’s owner), NSUS (GGPoker’s owner) and the Attorney General of Alberta. Even a decision in Ontario’s favour would not connect the tables by itself: the province would still have to choose to do it, and operators would have to build it. An Alberta–Ontario poker agreement has been discussed in public by the head of Alberta’s iGaming agency, but nothing has been signed.

How Big Is Online Poker in Ontario?

Steady in dollars, shrinking as a share. iGaming Ontario reports peer-to-peer poker separately in its market data: C$1.7 billion wagered in the 2024-25 fiscal year, with C$66 million in gaming revenue. Summing its monthly figures for 2025-26 gives about C$1.73 billion and C$71 million. The rest of the market has grown much faster, so poker’s share of all wagers fell from 2.8% in the first full year to 1.7%.

Poker’s share of all online wagers in Ontario, fiscal years 2022-23 to 2025-26.

The latest month published, August 2026, had C$122 million wagered on poker, 1% of the C$9.74 billion market, and C$5.6 million in revenue. From January to August 2026 poker wagers were 2.9% below the same months of 2025. iGaming Ontario does not publish how many people play poker, only the number of active accounts across the whole market.

How to Choose an Ontario Poker Site

  • Start with the pool, not the brand. Joining BetMGM, partypoker or bwin puts you at the same tables; the choice between them is about apps and tool rules.
  • Match the rake to your stake. Below $0.25/$0.50 GGPoker’s caps are the lowest; from $0.25/$0.50 to $2.50/$5 the BetMGM network’s are.
  • For tournaments, follow the guarantees. GGPoker runs the largest regular Sunday events and the only WSOP bracelet series in the province.
  • Check the tool policy before you install anything. A tracker allowed at BetMGM Poker is banned at partypoker and bwin.
  • Play the formats you know. The multipliers on Spin & Gold, Spin & Go, SPINS and BLAST are published; most of those games pay two or three times the buy-in to a single winner.
  • Set your limits first. Every registered room offers deposit limits and other responsible gambling tools in the account settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, on the six sites registered with iGaming Ontario: GGPoker, PokerStars on FanDuel, 888poker, BetMGM Poker, partypoker and bwin. You must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario when you play.

What is the best online poker site in Ontario?

It depends on how you play. GGPoker has the largest tournaments and the lowest rake caps at the micro stakes; the BetMGM network (BetMGM, partypoker, bwin) has the lowest caps from $0.25/$0.50 to $2.50/$5; PokerStars on FanDuel has the best-rated apps on both stores.

Can Ontario players play poker against the rest of the world?

No. All Ontario poker tables are open only to players in Ontario. The Court of Appeal found in November 2025 that sharing player pools internationally would be legal; the Supreme Court of Canada heard the appeal on 7 October 2026 and has not yet ruled.

Is PokerStars still available in Ontario?

Yes, but inside FanDuel. The PokerStars Ontario platform closed on 7 May 2026 and the brand returned on 5 June 2026 as PokerStars on FanDuel at poker.fanduel.ca. You need a FanDuel account; old balances were not transferred.

Which Ontario poker site has the lowest rake?

At $0.05/$0.10 GGPoker caps rake at $1 a pot with five or more players. From $0.25/$0.50 to $2.50/$5 the BetMGM network caps it at $3, against $4 to $8 elsewhere. All four networks charge about 5% of the pot up to the cap.

Can I use a HUD on Ontario poker sites?

GGPoker and 888poker give every player a free built-in HUD. BetMGM Poker allows trackers such as PokerTracker and Holdem Manager from a published list. partypoker and bwin do not allow HUDs or trackers, even though they share tables with BetMGM.

Eligible iGames conducted and managed by iGO are only available to those physically present in the Province of Ontario
